MEET
DR. LAUREN LAPORTE

Afraid of what happens if you continue in burnout - well I’ve been there and it’s not pretty!

To survive in the highly political and stressful environment of work, I wore the mask of “ideal life” while secretly stressing out and obsessing over failure. I was constantly racing to keep up with others…until I hit my breaking point.

After a particularly grim appointment with a specialist who recommended I “reduce my stress” by leaving grad school, my full time job, and consider taking long-term disability, I had my breaking point. I needed to do life differently.

ah-ha moments

ah-ha moments -

Like all good “ah-ha” moments, most of us have no clue what to do next.

I just knew I couldn’t keep doing the same thing expecting different results. This was the late 1990s, and the “web” was barely a thing, so I started researching “stress management” in the academic library (insert eye-roll here).

Quickly I realized I must learn by doing, which led me to practice yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques; embark on alternative healing apprenticeships; and earn multiple certifications in different healing techniques.

I also created a network of support, including an amazing nutritionist who helped me to see how my poor choices (i.e., non-existent boundaries) created the majority of stress in my life.

So, while learning to take care of myself physically and emotionally, I learned to unapologetically make choices that advocated for my needs and wants.

It can feel brutally hard putting yourself first in life.

Unlike the movies, my struggles weren’t resolved overnight, and it took a very long time because I didn’t have a mentor or program to guide me through the burnout!

And this is why I developed the Live Life Unafraid® series of workshops and programs - the result of finetuning 20 years of research, lived experiences, and the success stories of working one on one with adults suffering from burnout.
